Under the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998, employers are required to ensure that all persons who use machinery and equipment have received adequate training for the purpose of health and safety at work.
This course is accredited by ITSSAR (Independent Training Standards Scheme and Register) and designed to train individuals in the safe operation of a counterbalance forklift truck.
Theory presented by powerpoint and educational films and discussions.
Theory test question paper consisting of 20 multiple choice questions and 5 open questions.
Pre-shift inspection of the forklift truck.
Familiarisation of all major components.
Pre-shift check test.
Practical training consisting of steering and manoeuvring around a course, and lifting and stacking at varied heights.
Competency practical test.
Novice course = 5 days
Experienced course = 3 days
Safety refresher course = 1 day.
This needs to be completed every 3-5 years to ensure employees are competent and covered to use the machine.
