Forklift Truck Operator

These courses are for people looking to gain a recognised certificate for the safe operation of forklift truck driving. Please ensure you book on to the right course depending on level of experience. We run novice, experienced and refresher courses on a regular basis. 

Under the 'Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998' employers are required to ensure that all workers who use equipment have received sufficient training for the purpose of health and safety. 

Novice Level

  • This is for those with little to no experience in forklift truck operating, the course is ran over a 5 day period and is £550.00

    Please Note: £20 is payable for ITSSAR registration fees. 

  • Aims and Objectives: 

    This ITSSAR (Independent Training Standards Scheme and Register) accredited course is designed to train individuals in the safe operation of Counterbalance Forklift Trucks in the workplace and to educate the candidate in the understanding of safe lifting practices.

  • Course Content:

    • Theory presented by PowerPoint and educational films and discussion.
    • Theory Test question paper consisting of 20 multi-choice questions and 5 open questions.
    • Pre shift inspection of the forklift truck and familiarisation of all major components.
    • Pre shift check test: the candidate must show the ability to complete a pre shift check on all major components.
    • Practical training consisting of steering and manoeuvring around a course and lifting and stacking at varied heights.
    • Practical test of competency.

Experienced Level

  • This is for those with previous experience of fork lift truck operating. The Course is ran over 3 days and costs £350.00

  • Aims and Objectives:

    This ITSSAR (Independent Training Standards Scheme and Register) accredited course is designed to ensure operators maintain good driving habits, learn new skills where appropriate and reassess their abilities. 

  • Course Content:

    • Theory presented by PowerPoint and educational films and discussion.
    • Theory Test question paper consisting of 20 multi-choice questions and 5 open questions.
    • Training of pre shift inspection of the forklift truck.
    • Pre shift check test: the candidate must show the ability to complete a pre shift check on all major components.
    • Practical training consisting of steering and manoeuvring around a course and lifting and stacking at varied heights.
    • Practical test of competency.

Safety Refresher

  • This course is for those that need a simple refresher in order to maintain standards, and keep their qualification in check. The refresher is only 1 day in length and the cost is £195.00

  • Aims and Objectives:

    Refresher training or retesting is appropriate for operators that have not used trucks for sometime, are occasional users, appear to have developed unsafe working practices, have had an accident or near miss or have changed their working practice or enviroment.

  • Course Content:

    • Some limited theory presented by PowerPoint and educational films and discussion.
    • Theory Test question paper consisting of 20 multi-choice questions and 5 open questions.
    • Refresh on pre shift inspection of the forklift truck.
    • Pre shift check test: the candidate must show the ability to complete a pre shift check on all major components.
    • Some limited practical training consisting of steering and manoeuvring around a course and lifting and stacking at varied heights.
    • Practical test of competency.

Additional Information

  • Although not required by law, it is strongly recommended by all governing Health and Safety bodies that a refresher test is taken every 3-5 years for fork lift operators currently holding a nationally recognised certificate. This not only covers employer but helps to keep safety at the forefront of all employees’ minds.
